GT vs RCB, IPL 2026 Match 42 — Preview & Deep Analysis

📅 2026-04-29 • ✍️ IPL 2026

Big cricket rivalries are rarely won in single battles. The Narendra Modi Stadium was home to the Gujarat Titans when they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium less than a week ago - and now chance has dictated that these two teams be pitted against one another in this IPL Match on the home ground of the Titans in Ahmedabad. This is a clash with an added tinge of revenge.

It has been a tale of opposites so far for these two teams. The reigning champions RCB, have a settled and fearless batting line-up and are second in the points table with six wins out of eight games and 12 points. Gujarat Titans, unpredictable but dangerous, sit fifth in the points table - in the fray for a play-off but barely. From now on, each point will count for Shubman Gill's team.

The Key Battleground: Venue Changes Everything

At the Narendra Modi Stadium, straight boundaries of 76m and square boundaries of 70m are much different to what RCB experienced when playing at Chinnaswamy. In RCB's most recent match, they hit 12 sixes; at Narendra Modi Stadium they will be able to hit fewer, and  making do with being on a larger ground in pre-existing conditions make Rashid Khan a much more formidable bowler than he would be in Bengaluru. Due to the presence of dew in the second innings, it is expected that the typical batting average for Narendra Modi Stadium may range from 190-205 runs and that this could make it difficult for whichever team is attempting to defend their total to do so. The results of the coin toss will influence both captains' teams' strategies as both teams will probably choose to bowl first if they win the toss.

Why This Game Is Different

The stadium is a very big deal. The Narendra Modi Stadium - the world's biggest cricket stadium - has 76 metres as straight boundaries and 70 metres as square boundaries. Put that against the short boundaries of the Chinnaswamy and you get a better picture about why RCB managed to blast off 12 sixes in the previous game here, and would find it difficult to do so again. Par at the Narendra Modi stadium (formerly Motera) in IPL 2026 is 190-205 runs, but straight boundaries and square boundaries mean that these will be far harder to get by brute force.

This is Rashid Khan's nest. In more suitable conditions, on a larger pitch, the Afghan stylist becomes much more aggressive - he will produce more turn, more attacking bowling and will likely charge RCB's mercenary middle-order in a way he couldn't in Bengaluru. Second innings dew will still be a factor; at this point, both captains will be watching the sky and the toss, which will probably be a no-brainer with the bowlers first.

Conclusion

RCB currently has a 57% chance of winning the game, which seems justified. IPL Match Shape, strength and spirit favour the Challengers. But it's home turf for GT, Rashid Khan will be a different player in this stadium, and Sudharsan is in deadly form. Now I think the Titans have a chance of fighting back.

Prediction: GT will win a competitive game, but not before RCB gives them hell
